About Austin
It all started in 2019 when I finished my graduate program in Indiana. I had made a lot of changes, both personal and professional, and I had to make some life changing decisions. I felt aimless, lost, and confused. I found this small yoga studio in the attic of an old parish house called The Corner Mat, and I decided I would go for a few classes and see what yoga was all about. Even from the first class, I knew I had found something special. I had found a space where I felt whole. On the mat I could be myself; I could discover myself; I could accept myself in those moments. Not only that, I was around people who were warm, welcoming, kind, and compassionate. I had found a community and a life practice that I knew I wanted to be in my life wherever it takes me.
I come back to yoga to discover, to center, to feel, to notice. It gives me a chance to let the other parts of my life go for a time as I bring my attention back to what’s right here: my body, my breath, my mind, and my spirit. It allows me to clear the forest so I can feel what’s truly there. Not only has it helped me to move and understand my body, but the practice and the philosophy have helped me to navigate my life and how I interact with myself and with others. No matter what is going on in my life, I know that through my practice, I will not only learn how to persevere through difficulty but also how to truly soak in ease and joy. Yoga has brought so much light into my life.
I hope to give my students a space where they can explore, experience, and feel. I hope to hold a space where students can feel safe to discover and experience themselves, where they can feel whole regardless of the shape they make or how they feel in their body. Yoga is meant to meet each student where they are at in that moment, and that is what I hope to provide for my students. Yoga is beautiful and so is each and every one of us.
